True enough. But I suspect that with either choice (Gitzo or Induro) you won't be thinking much about it once you have it. Really, the only thought I have about my tripod or Markins head is "is it packed?" In operation...

Everything that I have read above has been very interesting to me. I currently have a Manfrotto carbon fibre tripod with a Manfrotto ball head - decent stuff, but I couldn't afford the Gitzo tripod and Markins or RRS quality...

Cheap and tall: Feisol CT-3371. For shooting horizontally (with a Markin's ballhead) I have to lower it about 3-4" and I'm 6'. It's really sturdy. I've had it for 10 years now, and it works like new. A center column...

I don't have a BH-55 but use a Markins Q20 with quick release lever. I used it with a Sidekick and a Nikon D4s and 200-400mm f/4 lens and hauled them with the tripod over my shoulder all around Lake Clark National Park...
