. The main difference from my D700 seems to be that I now have a min Shutter... correct focus but the noise looked bad. I never saw any of this on my D700...

I'm familiar with using Auto ISO on my D700. Now as a D810 user I seem to have an additional Auto option in the Auto ISO menu. Today is a good day to sit by the fire with the camera & the manual and do some self-educating...

also used my D700 in the same conditions and everything was okay with the D700: I also tested Live View and it displayed an image then locked up...
