Supposedly the D300 is 2.9 inches deep and the D700 is 3.0"....

Ignore the first 5 shots. 'The Crucible' are D700 shots....

I'm saying I'd go with the D3 over the D700 if they were the same price - otherwise, I'm on the list for the D700....

I had the D300 and sold it for my D700. The D700 is 1000 times better or maybe a million times better. As for a lens--the 14-24mm f2.8 is the best -----and the 24-120mm is the worst---just not sharp....

Take into consideration that the D700 will require a teleconverter to get the same crop as the D300. Mathematically, a 1.7 TC will eat up the stops gained on the D700 when lighting is minimal....
