The Epson specs for resolution and drop size would appear to favor the 2880 so I also am very interested in hearing about the actual print quality on an equal size comparison. ...

This may be a bit late, but another option is to buy a reburbished 2880 from the Epson store for $549, less the $100 rebate, for a net cost of $449 with free shipping. JDT ...

That would depend on how many pictures you were to print every other month. The ink supposedly has a shelf life of 6 months but Ihave heard people say it is much longer. ...
